AI video generators vs AI motion graphics: Runway, Veo and Kario compared

"AI video" covers two very different kinds of tool, and the difference decides whether your video survives its first round of feedback.
AI video generators like Runway, Veo and Sora turn a prompt or an image into footage: a camera move through a city, a product on a turntable, a person walking on a beach. The output is pixels.
AI motion graphics tools like Kario build designed video: type, shapes, charts, UI, logos, all animated. The output is a project made of layers and keyframes.
Both are useful. They're just not interchangeable.
What each one is good at
- Cinematic b-roll and establishing shots
- Photoreal scenes you couldn't afford to shoot
- Mood pieces and concept visuals
- Stylised character and world shots
- Product launches and feature announcements
- Explainers with narration
- Animated charts and data stories
- Kinetic type, logo reveals, social ads
A useful test: if the shot would normally come from a camera, reach for a generator. If it would normally come from a designer, reach for motion graphics.
Where generated footage breaks down for product videos
Product and marketing videos are made of exact things: your product name, your prices, your UI, your logo, your brand colours. That's exactly what pixel generators struggle with.
- Text is unreliable. Generated footage can spell a headline right in one take and wrong in the next. Your exact pricing table is out of reach.
- Your product isn't in the model. A generator can invent a dashboard that looks plausible. It can't show yours.
- Brand drift. Colours and logos come out approximately right, which in marketing is wrong.
- Revisions mean regenerating. To change one word, you prompt again, and the new take changes everything else too.
That last one is the real cost. A launch video goes through notes from marketing, product, legal and the founder. With a rendered clip, every note is a reroll.
Why editable matters
A Kario video is a project, not a file. Each headline, shape, screenshot and chart sits on its own named layer, animated with real keyframes. So feedback stays cheap:
- "Change 'Pro' to 'Team'" retypes one text layer. Nothing else moves.
- "Use our blue" changes a colour, everywhere it's used.
- "Hold the CTA longer" stretches one scene's timing.
You can ask for any of these in chat, or select the layer in the editor and change it yourself.
Use them together
The best product videos often mix both. A few seconds of atmospheric footage sets the mood; the motion graphics carry the message, the product and the call to action.
Kario can generate photoreal footage clips inside your project, so a cinematic opening can live on the same timeline as your animated UI and type. You can also upload footage you've already made, wherever it came from. Either way, the clip becomes a layer like any other: trim it, place it, put type over it.
